332334 COMFORTABLE LEADS FOR SUN CITY 400 FRONTRUNNERS

Sun City, Saturday – There were comfortable leads for the Production Vehicle and Specials Vehicle category frontrunners at the halfway mark of the Sun City 400 here today.

At the designated service point at race headquarters at Sun City after the first of two loops that make up the race, Christiaan du Plooy/Henk Janse van Vuuren (RFS BMW X3) held a handy lead over Team Castrol Toyota pair Anthony Taylor and Chris Birkin. Du Plooy and Janse van Vuuren are looking for their first national win.

North West crew Hugo de Bruyn and Henri Hugo were in a solid third in the Micaren Exel Toyota Hilux. Completing the top five were former SA champions Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst (Ford Racing Ranger) and championship leaders Duncan Vos and Rob Howie in the second Team Castrol Toyota.

Class D was being led by Louis Weichelt and Maret Bezuidenhout (N1 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser) and Class E by Dirk Putter and Koos Claasens in the 4x4 Mega World Toyota Hilux.

KwaZulu-Natal crew Lance Trethewey and Carl Wichmann (LT Earthmovers BAT) lead the Special vehicle category ahead of Quintin and Kallie Sullwald in the Elegant Fuel BAT. A second KZN crew, Clint Gibson and Gary Campbell (Gibson Racing Porter) were third with Johan van Staden and Mike Lawrenson (Atlas Copco BAT) only 11 seconds in arrears.

Former Sun City 400 winner Richard Fuller and Dennis Murphy (Regent Racing BAT) overcame an overnight five minute penalty to move into the lead in Class P.
